Privacy

This is my personal site. It collects very little, and I'd rather say what that is plainly than bury it. Last updated 29 October 2026.

The short version

If you just read the site, I never learn who you are. Nothing is stored against you, and there are no advertising or tracking cookies. The only personal thing I hold is an email address, and only if you hand me one.

The newsletter

If you sign up, I collect your email address and nothing else. No name, no company, no hidden fields.

It goes straight to Resend, who run the list and send the emails on my behalf. They hold the address for me and I don't copy it anywhere else. I use it to send occasional posts and nothing more: no selling it, no sharing it, no passing it to anyone else.

The lawful basis is your consent, which you gave by typing it in. You can withdraw it whenever you like, using the unsubscribe link on any email or by asking me directly. Your address stays on the list until you do.

Analytics

I like knowing which posts get read. I don't need to know who read them, so I use tools that can't tell me.

  • Plausible, which I run myself rather than using anyone's hosted version. It sets no cookies and builds no profile of you. What I see is counts: page views, rough country, whether you arrived from Google or a link.
  • Cloudflare Web Analytics, which also sets no cookies and reports the same sort of aggregate numbers, along with how quickly pages loaded.

Neither can identify you, and I have no way to tie a visit to a person.

Cookies

The site sets none of its own, which is why there's no cookie banner asking you to agree to anything. Two things are worth mentioning anyway.

  • Cloudflare, who host the site, may set a cookie to tell humans from bots. It's there to keep the site up and is the sort of thing the rules class as strictly necessary, so it doesn't need consent.
  • Your own browser stores your light or dark mode choice on your device. It never reaches me.

The one embedded video

An old travel post has a YouTube video in it. It's a no-cookie embed and it only loads if you scroll down to it, so nothing reaches Google unless you actually go looking. If you then play it, YouTube's own terms and cookies apply, and that bit is out of my hands.

Hosting

The site runs on Cloudflare. Like any host, they handle your IP address in order to serve you the page and to keep the thing online. I don't keep server logs of my own.

Your rights

If I hold your email address, you can ask me to show you what I have, correct it, or delete it. Email me and I'll do it. There's not much to it: it's one address on one list.

If you think I've handled it badly, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. I'd rather you told me first so I can fix it.

Getting hold of me

I'm Josh Cox, and I'm the data controller for this site. The quickest way to reach me is by email.
