First Few Days In Hanoi

So, my first few days in Hanoi, Vietnam. Well, so far I have seen some cool things like Turtle Tower (below)… where apparently a golden turtle appeared and took a sword from their Emporer a couple of hundred years ago. More “touristic” pictures later.

I’ve sampled some of the local cuisines… boiled chicken feet amongst various noodle and rice dishes (a sit-down meal at a restaurant is about £2, or street food for between 50p to £1).

I’ve been drunk and in a very bad way the next day… shaking, sweating and lots of vomiting… when it’s 5,000 Dong for a beer (£0.20), I think I got carried away a bit. But don’t worry, where I’m staying wasn’t a bad place to be ill because of the great toilet facilities :). You can have a shit, shower and shave all in one place and the hostel is, I wouldn’t say clean, but livable.

I had a cool, free, walking tour which the guide took me through a lot of the temples and Pagodas in Hanoi. Temples are for worshipping your family (#1 religion in Vietnam) and Pagodas are for worshiping the Buddha (#2 religion in Vietnam). Now time for a few touristic pictures and one will give you an idea of a typical (crowded) restaurant street.

I saw a water puppet show, it was pretty weird but wonderful, they have these dolls that come out of the water along with music & sound effects and tell stories.

Finally, when asking about the sunglasses on sale in shops to the tour guide “how do you know which ones are fake and which are real?” he replied, “hahaha, they are all fake, I guarantee you”.

Anyway, there’s some more cool stuff that’s going on too, I’m meeting lots of different, but friendly people at the hostel. The Wi-Fi is dodgy (hence the poor quality images) but I can still message my lovely Girlfriend! Soppy? Perhaps.
